The Language of the Gods !

"When the spotlight's gone, you are off-stage, and there's no-one rooting for you, and you are alone, but for the company of your instrument- that's when the magic happens ! "

Some of my happiest moments are when I'm playing my synth, with not a care in the world; when new compositions emerge where none existed before; the joy of creating something out of nothing- something can I can listen to again and again to elevate my own mood ; the thrill of creating a potion; a magic potion that I turn to, in order to heal myself !

It's amazing how I feel - when I discover new chord patterns, elegant(as they appear to me :) ways to switch scales; switch from devotion to revolt in the same piece...... The excitement I felt, the first time I found the chord change from F#minor 6th to G# minor - I must've played it a few hundred times since.

I am slighty biased in favour of Instrumental music. I love vocals too. But, as someone said " Instrumental music bypasses logic; it goes straight to the heart". With words, you have one extra level of interpretation. It just so happens that since the time we've been born, we communicate through voice; So we become increasingly comfortable understanding words. But, I believe from a larger perspective, Instrumental music appeals to our natural instints; we learn its vocabulary as we listen to it more and more. We are not constrained to express or understand emotions that we can't express through words.

And importantly, Instrumental music is simply amazing when it comes to encouraging introspection. I feel it encourages imagination, and a sense of wonder; you can listen to it and simply allow you mind to flow free. But with vocals, we tend to pay 'conscious' attention. Right now, I feel that I am being limited by my vocabulary in expressing exactly what I want to say. Maybe I should say it through a piece of music :)

Oh my my!! How aptly you've worded my thoughts! My friends and family find it incredulous that I can never remember lyrics even if I listen to a song hundreds of times! My mind always focuses purely on the notes, the flow of the music and ignores the words. I love the power of instrumentals to let your mind wander free, and as you rightly said, it nourishes imagination and introspection. :)
I think you've done a great job expressing something that I have never been able to convey through words!

Thanks Neeraja ! I too happen to have a terrible memory for lyrics!:) And even when I start out with a determination to pay attention to lyrics, I invariably tend to day-dream and start paying attention to the music! So basically I now no longer try, and let my mind wander:-)
