The Sprint
It was already 9:06AM. My bus regularly comes to the stop where i get in between 9:12 and 9:14 AM. I knew i was getting late and the chances were slim that I'd catch the bus. I started the walk to the stop anyway. I quickened the pace. I was almost walk-jogging soon. The bulb glew - I thought why not run ? The answer - the embarassment of course :) The embarassment of running in front of all these people.
The bulb glew brighter - These people most likely will never again see me. Even if they do, my running spectable will probably be their only source of entertainment for the day. I ran. The people barely looked at me(leave alone stare). Some seemed to give a knowing wink. Encouraged, I ran like a man posessed. I ran like a man posessed by the spirit of the great Greek athelete of unknown origin who won several undocumented races in 2200BC. The street dog watched with a glow in its eyes. It got up, and then sat down again, having decided that the chase wouldn't be challenging enough. Relieved, I continue the sprint, making a mental note to be conveyed to the dog later - ' I owe you one, buddy!' I reached the stop. The time was 9:12:21. I'd made it! Hurray!!! The joy of achievement! All I had to do was wait for the bus- the simplest thing in the world (especially after you've been running like a maniac) . It was 9:15 soon. I began to wonder - was the tyre punctured ? did the driver oversleep ?
The bulb glew brightest - I 'd missed the bus.
