Random Thoughts

  • People who complain all the time bore me. So do people who indiscriminately use words like 'logistics' and 'private space'. Simple and straightforward people impress me.

  • Do you want to know a secret I have recently learnt?  - Learning almost any skill is a linear process. (and this includes 'vague' things like public speaking, handling stress,  becoming more organized etc).i.e. once you know the right method for that skill. There are two general rules that apply to all skills -

One, you must be willing to experience some amount of discomfort - The notion that discomfort/pain is something that once must instantly escape from is plain wrong.

Two - One must be willing to do things that that don't seem intellectually appealing - One can't expect the universe to operate in 'intelligent' ways merely to satisfy one's need to feel capable of comprehending complexity. If you can't occasionally take things on faith, and try them out before passing your judgement on whether or not they will work, you will not make progress. Use your judgement to identify a person who is an expert in the area that you wish to master. Model their behaviour, even if some of it doesn't seem 'natural' to you at first. Once you've attained a reasonable degree of competence, 'improvise'.

There is also a third rule - maybe I'll write a separate post on it when I am again gripped by an urge to hand out free gyan :)

That post may be indefinitely delayed since I might forget to write about it :) So here's a quick preview of the third rule ' One must let go of the need to be in control'.
