Hmm...

1)Melodica, that fine instrument of mine, has now been transported to my lab. Why you ask ? I seem to have gotten into a rut, and find inspiration to be missing. So, I am hoping that my attempts at amusing my lab-mates with renditions of old bollywood numbers will get me going too ..:-) Melodica has already won approval, and my friends here have welcomed it enthusiastically ! Some have even offered to buy it, but it was with a solemn expression that I informed them - 'Not everything in this world can be bought' :P

2) My formula for saving the planet - Get rid of TV, the internet and mobile phones. In general, I believe that anything in moderation is ok.. Many youngsters don't know how much is too much, and we will soon end up with a new generation that seeks instant gratification, lives with a sense of entitlement, and which, with all these distractions, will not know the value of unadulterated boredom.

The image of Tom Hanks returning to civilization in 'Cast Away' comes to my mind. If you got a second chance at life, what changes would you make ? As is evident, I am in a philosophical mood today, so I end this with a quote.

"What you do today is important, because you are exchanging a day of your life for it."
-Unknown

Of course, it is very difficult to live each day this way, but an occasional reminder to ourselves is useful ...

True words. I'm with you to get rid of the TV, some portions of the internet and mobile phones :)

Neeraja, I myself spend more time on the net than I would like to think :-) I don't think we are ever going to get rid of these things ..

I just took a break .. :-) Im surprised that people are agreeing with me on this :) I thought getting rid of these things was a radical idea:P

"Aaah, where have you been" was a spontaneous emotion, than a question to be answered :-)

This is exactly what I meant with something I posted last year:

Technology, communication, Brain in celebration!
Heart?
In silent retreat.

True technology has brought the world closer together, but its creating rifts even inside the house itself, at the same time. People dont seem to have time for real conversations anymore... They dont seem to have time for their own children anymore.

True, everything has pros and cons. I wish we all knew how to keep things in balance so that the positives are harnessed and the negatives are kept on conscious check.

Oy yes, I now remember that post of yours !! :-) I think it was a part of series of Haikus ... Yes, it is difficult to always keep things in balance, but I'm also guessing/hoping that people will get bored of technology after a while..

"...will not know the value of unadulterated boredom."

Couldnt have said it better. The value of boredom is often lost on people.

Wow... you seriously think they'l get bored of it? I couldn't hope more for that to happen! The fact that someone intelligent is thinking so, is adding so much hope to me! :-)

swat, ya ... now and then , it's interesting to get bored :-)

Meenakshi, haha ..you shouldn't read too much into that prediction of mine :-) Problem is when people tire of one technology, another one appears..:-)
