For the want of a better title

1) What better way to kickstart the week than by watching the latest ( and the last ) Harry Potter movie ?! I really enjoyed it, and was left wishing that it had been a four hour movie rather than a two hour one :-) I am not quite the 'harry potter trivia expert', as I've read only the first book (I'm guessing this admission will invite  severe disapproval:-), but I haven't left that prevent me from catching up with all the movies :-) I love the genre that combines fantasy, action and adventure, with magic or time travel ! Needless to say, I am a huge 'Lord of the rings' fan, with Aragorn being one of my favourite characters.

2) If I had the chance, I would've loved to spend some time at Mitchel Resnick's group, 'Lifelong Kindergarten'. It is one of the groups in the MIT media labs. You can find an interesting article by him here ! For those who don't have the time, I'll just reproduce two lines from the paper - "Instead of making kindergarten like the rest of school, we need to make the rest of school( indeed, the rest of life) more like kindergarten". I couldn't agree more ! I feel an element of play is vital to engaging in any activity productively for extended periods of time. This also reminds me of one of Ken Blanchard's books that,I remember reading a few years ago - titled 'Fish' that talks about combining work with play.

3) I want to dedicate a few lines to my sister and brother-in-law here... Suraj is a highly skilled surgeon, an expert on Tamil literature, a very good cook, and has a penchant for effortlessly memorizing lonely-planet travel guides, besides being a wonderful person :-) I totally enjoy the silly phone conversations that we share! My sister - I look up to her for so many things.. She has a gift for sensing people's emotional needs, and can put them at ease in the most subtle way. She's read widely, has an incredible memory for detail, and is a discerning critic! I have so many things to add... Some other time, when I have thought through what I want to say :-)

Nice :-) I can't wait to watch the new Harry Potter either!

I was smiling when I read your "I'm guessing this admission will invite severe disapproval"... Yea, as I keep telling my husband, a 3 hour movie can hardly mimic all the beauty and joy that's felt when slowly reading a book, living and breathing with every sentence and every character, waiting and enjoying every suspense as it unravels! The sad truth though is, there's only so much time to do all this, so even I only watch movies nowadays..

"Instead of making kindergarten like the rest of school, we need to make the rest of school( indeed, the rest of life) more like kindergarten" - Agree, totally :-) And this spirit is what I have most enjoyed in your blog :-)

Thanks for sharing more about you and your family :-) Best wishes to your sis and b-i-l :-)

More than disapproval, curiosity- Why did you stop? :). I always preferred Gandalf somehow!

Love the quote and the concept, though I can't say I cared much for Fish- it seemed too obvious and overly simplistic to me, especially the sequel.

And your family sounds like they would be wonderful travel companions, for vacations and life :)

Meenakshi - You must catch the movie! Yes, there is a certain joy in reading that watching a movie never quite captures :-) And I like the fact that I can imagine each character to be the way I like, and it is disappointing if the actor doesn't conform to the image I've constructed in my mind ! Basically, I think books leave more to imagination, and that's nice.. I'm thrilled if this blog captures the kindergarten spirit! Thanks a lot !:-)

SecondSight - 'Why did I stop' ? I actually don't have an answer:-) I'm planning to read them though ! I've always thought of Gandalf and Dumbledore as being similar. Actually, i agree that fish is simplistic, but it was one of the first books to my knowledge to appear in that genre, so the memory hangs on ! Thanks, yes they do make great travel companions :-)

Oh good, I await your (re)views of the books :). And yes, D and G are similar in many ways in the role they play in the story, the actor etc ;). But this is my favorite "similarity"..

haha ! :-) That's at the mines of moria if I remember right ! Ya I'll share my views when I read them, but I'm sure you'll do a much better job writing reviews :-)

I enjoyed reading Mitchel's paper - very interesting! Something I have always felt, but never expressed, and never have known how to implement :).
I'm not a HP trivia expert either, although I have read all the books - my memory is far too feeble to hold the exact dialogues and the numerous extraneous characters :).

I knew your sister would be as warm as you :). No surprises :). It's always heartwarming to see such a wonderful family.

Neeraja, ya, actually it seemed very accessible for a 'paper' ! Oh but you seem the kind who would have a very good memory for detail :-)
Thanks a lot for the very generous comment !:-)
