Pun Intended

Are facebook-users a bunch of 'like' minded people ?

PS - I am far from being a fan of the current facebook craze. We had an intern in our lab a few months back. He discovered that I was not on facebook, and declared that I was technologically-challenged:-) So, to catch up with civilization, I did join facebook, though I continue to be a newbie, with my activities being restricted to logging in and out within a span of three minutes once every two weeks:-)

these days even aunts and uncles are on facebook and if you are not there they think you belong to the dinosaur era

I think the question is rather too generic- like asking if all bloggers are like-minded people :).

Since most websites I visit now have a FB news feed, it's turned into a very personalized newspaper of sorts for me, complete with current events and technical news and personal gossip columns. As Rafiki mentioned a while back, you even have the option of obituaries and disaster updates now.

Madhu - Ya practically everyone seems to be on facebook! Dinosaurs are nice creatures:-)

Secondsight - Yes, of course:-) It is absurd to club all facebook users into one category, and make a sweeping statement, so the answer to the question, in my opinion too, is 'No'! :-) It really was meant to be a pun on 'like', and the question just sort of happened. Yes, I guess there are some people who effectively use it to keep in touch !

I would not call myself a FB fan but I am on it. I have relatives and friends on FB who otherwise I would not really have kept in touch with. I met a few of my primary school teachers just last week on FB. I must say I was thrilled enough to be jumping around. FB is a human resource if you think about it. A very noisy one. It depends on an individual how much noise you are ready to sustain. About being like minded. Yeah, the answer is no. And I second second sight (Can be punned?).

And dinosaurs may have been nice creatures but sadly are extinct Karthik. Have you ever wondered why? Could it be that they got left behind? :)

Rafiki - It must've been really cool to find your primary school teachers on facebook !! :-) Well, like I said, I haven't figured out how to use it effectively, so I don't use it. I think we should should any means of communication we are comfortable with, thats all :-) I might get left behind of course; I'll take that risk !

I recently joined FB because I didn't want to be a social-outcast for not being on it! It's nice even if you're only a dormant part of your social group, at least to be aware of gradual changes in people's lives instead of running into a friend 20 years later and gasping at all the changes that's happened to them :). At that's about the only reason I log in once every two weeks :)

Neeraja - Ya, thats true! To be the only one out of the loop isn't good ! If only all the updates could be automatically filtered to show only the genuinely interesting ones:-)
