3 Great quotes

'People in their right minds don't take pride in their talents'
'One thing that doesn't abide by the majority rule is your conscience'

Harper Lee, 'To kill a mockingbird'

I read this book by Harper Lee about 5-6 years ago;certainly amongst the very best books i have ever read. Interesting, its the only book she ever wrote and always claimed it to be 'a simple love story'. A must read.

'The greatest wisdom is kindness'
Talmud

Tomorrow is officially my last day at IISc. Two absolutesly wonderful years, in all probability the ones i will the cherish the most in my life. Two blogs on the way - 'The Rhythmica Diaries' and the 'The CEDT Diaries'....

Prof Joy Kuri is one truly incredible man. Hats off to him !!!

Dont you think thats a little inaccurate....perhaps a line needs to be drawn between pride and vanity....

I suspect the intention was to convey the latter...

what say?

People get 'talented' either when they work hard at something over a period of time, or if they have it in their genes(in which case their parents or grandparents or... have worked hard:)

Meaning, people are good at it simply coz worked hard for it. There's a difference between 'quiet confidence' and 'open pride', if you get what i mean. We can do a thing knowing that we do it well, but need not 'talk-about'/'show-off' our abilities.

Or as covey explicitly said somewhere 'We should never behave in a manner so as to make others around us feel inferiour to us' . If that means not showing pride openly, so be it..I guess it was meant in that context(or that's my interpretation:)

Interestingly, pride is listed as one of the 7 deadly sins..
