Stuff I’ve learnt – I
In some sense, I had an extended identity crisis. And suddenly things seemed very simple and natural. Along the way, I learnt (and am learning) some really good stuff. These things work for me. The way I’ve listed them, it might sound like I’m ‘preaching’ this to someone else; please view this as more of a self-talk to myself.
1) When in doubt, smile.
2) Resist the temptation to say “The same thing happened to me…..”
3) Whenever you lend something, however small it may be, insist that it be returned in exactly the same condition in which you lent it.
4) Don’t have too many strong opinions. Either you can have strong opinions, or you can be flexible. Not both.
5) Have the courage to say no in a way that is not ambiguous.
6) Every so often, in sport, play to lose, especially when you know you your opponent would really love to win, and is deserving.
7) Don’t set out to prove yourself at every possible opportunity. You will only waste your energy.
8) Avoid talking about people behind their backs like plague.
9) In general, give critical comments , suggestions or advice only when people specifically ask for it.
10) When people are laughing at you, join them. They’ll soon be smiling with you.
